Who Comes First - Bottom or Bacteria? Understanding STI DoxyPEP and Antimicrobial Stewardship

In this session, IReSH co-chairs Faye and Nicola will reintroduce themselves and briefly outline their interests and current work. Our new co-chair, Chase Ledin, will then present his research.

Chase will discuss his ongoing research exploring healthcare perspectives about the normalisation of STI doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (DoxyPEP) in sexual medicine. Drawing upon semi-structured interviews (n=15) with doctors, nurses, and health promotion specialists, Chase will articulate how Health Care Professionals (HCPs) understand the problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) within sexual medicine, how antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is constructed within and outwith clinical spaces, and how social responsibility for AMS is imagined between HCPs, patients, and sexual communities.
